Article Summary

This article will talk about the standard Ziptech build process and why it is necessary for us to go through this process.

Why does my PC have to be initially configured by Ziptech?

Contrary to popular belief a workstation (PC or Mac) is not ready to be used “out-of-the-box”. There is a significant amount of work required to prepare your PC. If not done correctly this can waste a huge amount of your time and cause considerable stress down the line.

What is involved in the configuration of a new Windows PC?

The following work is carried out in the Ziptech workshop before your PC is sent out:

  • Initial OS configuration – time zone, language, keyboard layout, computer name, local administrator account creation
  • Update OS with the latest patches
  • Uninstall any unwanted applications installed by hardware manufacturer
  • Install Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Reader, latest version of Java, .net and Silverlight.
  • Install Ziptech support agent and anti-virus
  • Perform configuration changes to ensure PC stays on and connected to the internet during maintenance nights
  • Set up VPN connection (where applicable)
  • Join to company domain
  • Set up network printers
  • Company specific operating system configuration and program setup
  • Set up network profile specific to the nominated user as well as Microsoft Office for that user
  • Un-boxing, re-boxing the workstation and shipping to site once completed

How long will the setup of my PC take?

Setup times for PCs can vary based on several factors. If you would like an update on progress or an estimated delivery date, please feel free to contact our support line on 0203 981 0860.
